The
Social Justice and Outreach Committee works with the pastoral staff
to develop and coordinate the parish’s social justice, advocacy,
and social ministries.
Carewalk for the Homeless. Several
evenings a week, parishioners prepare light meals and hand-deliver
them to homeless persons living on neighborhood streets.
Outreach Center for the Homeless. Several times
a week, parishioners prepare and serve a hot sit-down meal to homeless
persons and other persons in need in the parish hall. After the
meal, staff and volunteers meet with interested persons for common
prayer and mutual support.
Holy Name School. OSJ supports the Jesuit-sponsored
ministries at Holy Name of Camden with tuition assistance for elementary
and high school students and with financial support for the Holy
Name summer camp.
Family
Support Ministries. OSJ parishioners give regular assistance
to the single mothers and their children who reside at Rowan Homes
in North Philadelphia. This assistance includes a tutoring program
that prepares the
mothers for the GED examination, and gift-giving at Christmas and
on Mother's Day.
Parishioner Support. OSJ parishioners give financial
and other assistance to other parishioners who may find themselves
in some unusual, unexpected need in the course of the year.
Special Projects. OSJ parishioners respond as needed
to special requests for assistance due to natural disasters and
other unforeseen events.
