By
our Baptism, we are conformed to Christ, that is, we share
his life and his mission. His transforming Spirit fills us and empowers
us to do what he did. When we minister in Jesus’ name, it
is Jesus himself who acts in us and through us.
Old St. Joseph’s engages in a number of ministries in Jesus’
name. These ministries mirror Jesus’ activities of teaching,
healing those who are broken, proclaiming God’s word, encouraging
and comforting those who are burdened, and feeding the hungry. These
ministries depend in large part on the generous participation of
parishioners and friends of OSJ to continue in operation. The
parish's several standing committees assist the pastor by periodically
evaluating the effectiveness and appropriateness of the parish's
many ministries, and by planning the improvement of current ministries
and the development of new ministries. If
you want to participate in one or more of these ministries, contact
the parish offices, and we will put you in contact with the ministry
coordinator.

VOLUNTEERS
NEEDED
Hospital
Ministry: Two of our ministries need regular volunteers:
our ministry to the patients at Pennsylvania Hospital, and our ministry
of hospitality in the parish hall after the Sunday morning liturgies.
The hospital ministers visit patients at Pennsylvania Hospital,
encourage them and pray with them, and offer them Eucharist if they
desire. Volunteers go to the hospital as often as they want; they
go alone or with someone else; and they go whatever time of the
day is convenient for them. We provide training for interested persons.
Fr. Joe McGovern is the “spiritual director” for this
ministry.
